Return to Balance

“If you want to relate to happiness, then get ready for sadness also, because the world is a balance; it is like the cycle of day and night.”
- Yogi Bhajan

Dear Beloved Community,
Even though the sun still blesses us with its warmth, the wheel of the year is turning. Fall. It is is the time of harvest, of giving thanks for all that is abundantly moving through us. On the Fall Equinox, day and night will be equal, in perfect balance. It is time to give thought to the balance and flow within our lives. If there are adjustments to be made, like slowing down your fast-paced life or taking more consideration for your health and well-being, this is the time to do it. Even though we are quite removed from the messages of the earth, our bodies still follow the cycle of the seasons. When you honor the cycle within you, there is an instant sense of "rightness" and peace. Listen to your heart, listen to the whispers of the earth, and take appropriate action. Return to balance.

The wisdom, humor, compassion and stories they bring to each weekend will be some of your favorite memories. It is by being in the presence of a Master, that you learn how to connect with that mastery yourself. The Awareness Center's Teacher Training program is led by Dr. Santokh Singh Khalsa. You will find his approach very supportive and accessible. As a chiropractor and yoga master for over 30 years, he offers a depth of wisdom that is unsurpassed.

Whether or not you wish to become a teacher, this program is for you. You will finish with all the knowledge, tools and skills to teach. Whether you choose to teach in the community, at a studio, or with your family and friends, your yogic knowledge will be invaluable. Many of our students decide to take the program simply for personal development and to deepen their practice of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation.

Meditation of the Month: Shabd Kriya
Sit in Easy Pose. Place the hand in the lap, palms up, right over left. Gaze at tip of nose, eyes half-closed. Inhale in 4 equal parts, mentally hearing the sound sa ta na ma. Hold the breath, mentally repeating the mantra 4 times for a total of 16 beats. Then exhale in 2 equal strokes mentally projecting Wahe Guru. Continue for 11 minutes. Slowly and gradually work up to 31 minutes.

Shabd means "the sacred word." The sound vibration of the Infinite goes into the breath, and then into the core of the being. The best time to practice this meditation is at night before retiring. If practiced regularly, sleep will be deep and relaxed, and the nerves will regenerate. You will find that you think better, work better, love better, and live better. It gives radiance which gives patience, the first condition of real love.

It is for reaching the wonderlands of your own consciousness.
