Freedom in Commitment

“Inside you there is a soul which obeys no boundary and no limit.
It is as pure and as bright as God.”
- Yogi Bhajan

Dear Beloved Community,

There is a deep sense of freedom that comes when you make a commitment to someone or something. It is choice at a deep level. As you choose one thing you let go of others, and there is an opportunity for incredible growth by having made your choice. Whether it be the structure of your yoga practice, a relationship, or a new position at work, commitment creates the solid foundation and framework to ensure that your life truly works.

In society we often feel that commitment to anything is a limitation or structure that is too hard to follow consistently. But anyone who has experienced true commitment understands that on the other side of commitment is freedom. Choosing commitment is not always the easiest path - yet it's the most rewarding in the end. As is the case with most rewards, effort is needed. This month, look at what you are committed to and why? Are there any choices you could make that would bring you greater freedom or joy? Make a commitment to start a 40-day meditation and tell someone about it. Make a commitment to come to class two times a week and get a friend to go with you. Make a commitment to eat more healthily or go on a "positivity diet". Choose one small commitment that makes you happy, stick to it and experience your newfound sense of freedom.

Celebrate the power of freedom and commitment with us, as we prepare for our wedding on July 22nd on sacred Chumash land in the mountains above Malibu. To read our story, go to our wedding website at giselaandtimothy.weddings.com. Our password is "pasadena".

Her warm humor and insight provide a safe place for balance and release. Her Sunday evening class is a perfect time to celebrate the end of your week, and set your intention for the week to come.

Meditation of the Month:
Sodarshan Chakra Kriya
Sit in Easy Pose. Eyes are open and fixed at the tip of the nose.
1. Block the right nostril with the right thumb. Inhale slowly and deeply through the left nostril. Suspend the breath. Mentally chant the mantra WHA-HAY GU-ROO 16 times. Pump the navel point 3 times with each repetition, one on WHA, once on HAY, and once on GUROO, for a total of 48 times. After 16 repetitions, unblock the right nostril, block the left nostril with the right index finger, and exhale slowly through the right nostril. Repeat and continue for 5-31 minutes. To end, inhale, hold the breath 10 seconds, then exhale. Stretch the arms up and shake the entire body for 1 minute, so the energy can spread.

This is one of the greatest meditations you can practice. It has considerable transformational powers and retrains the mind. It establishes inner happiness and a state of flow and ecstasy in life. It cuts through all darkness, giving you a new start.

From The Aquarian Teacher by Yogi Bhajan.

"May you understand that within this distance of destiny, you will leave this planet with the utmost satisfaction, grace and self-fulfillment. On this day and everyday may you be blessed forever. Sat Nam.” – Yogi Bhajan
